About Maple
Meet Maple, a sweet, loyal, and athletic Labrador Retriever mix who has spent much of her life caring for others. Now, it is finally her turn to be someone’s cherished companion.
Maple entered the rescue while pregnant after a Good Samaritan found her wandering without identification, tags, or a microchip. Just a few days after arriving in her foster home, she delivered 11 puppies—six girls and five boys—affectionately named the “Breakfast Club.”
Maple devoted herself to raising her puppies, and all 11 have since moved on to new lives. After completing her job as a wonderful mother, Maple underwent treatment for heartworm disease. She made it through treatment and is now healthy, fully vetted, and heartworm-negative.
Her puppies have all been chosen, but Maple is still patiently waiting for someone to choose her.
Characteristics
Sweet and Loving: Maple adores her people and enjoys being included in their lives.
Playful: Tug-of-war is one of her favorite games, and she has a joyful, expressive personality.
Active and Athletic: Maple loves walks, outdoor time, and staying active with her person.
Affectionate: Belly rubs, back scratches, snout kisses, and occasional cuddles are all welcome.
People-Focused: Maple wants to be part of whatever her person is doing without being overly clingy.
Leash-Trained: She walks well on a leash, although she may be excited during the first few minutes.
Good in the Car: Maple rides well and would be happy to accompany her person on outings.
Easygoing at Home: After getting enough exercise and attention, she settles nicely inside.
Life with Other Dogs
Maple can do well with calm, well-balanced dogs who respect her personal space. She does not appreciate dogs getting directly in her face or approaching her with overwhelming excitement.
A thoughtful introduction would be important if her future home includes another dog. A relaxed canine companion with compatible energy and good manners would likely be the best match.
Health and Care
Maple has successfully completed treatment for heartworm disease and is now heartworm-negative. She is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and current on her core vaccinations, including Bordetella and Leptospirosis.
After everything she has experienced—from being found pregnant and alone to raising 11 puppies and completing heartworm treatment—Maple is healthy and ready to enjoy the next chapter of her life.
Ideal Home
Maple needs an active person or family who will include her in everyday life. She loves walks, outdoor adventures, toys, treats, belly rubs, and simply spending time with her humans.
A fenced yard would give her a safe place to run and explore, but it is not required as long as she receives regular walks and exercise.
Maple would do best with someone who is not away from home all day, every day. If her person works outside the home, being able to return during lunch or arrange a midday visit would help ensure she receives the companionship and activity she needs.
Most importantly, Maple needs a home that will treat her as part of the family. She has spent enough of her life caring for others—now she deserves time to relax, have fun, and experience what it means to be cared for.
Maple has not allowed her past to dictate her future. Instead, she enjoys every day by sniffing the grass, playing with toys, going on walks, and soaking up belly rubs and snout kisses. Perhaps we could all learn something from Maple.
