Candy: A Joyful, Affectionate Pittie Who Wants All the Love to Herself
Location: Blairsville, Georgia at Castoff Pet Rescue
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Approximately 5 years old
Gender: Female
Candy is happiness with four legs and a constantly wagging body. Say her name, make eye contact, or simply stand nearby, and this affectionate girl will greet you with enthusiastic wiggles.
She is a kissing machine, a love tank, and a big personality wrapped inside a beautiful pittie. Candy loves meeting people, riding in the car, sitting in laps, and remaining close to her favorite humans.
Her current Shelterluv profile lists an intake date of December 21, 2023. Earlier rescue notes say she has been waiting since October 2022. Either way, Candy has spent far too long watching other dogs leave while she continues waiting for someone to choose her.
Meet Candy
Candy is an approximately 5-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier with what Castoff Pet Rescue describes as “main-character energy.”
She is friendly with new people and wants to be with her family as much as possible. Despite her large size, Candy considers herself a lap dog and will happily claim a spot as close to her person as she can get.
Candy is also house-trained, walks well on a leash, and loves car rides. Her low-to-moderate energy level means she enjoys playtime and adventures but can also settle down for affection and couch time.
Candy Must Be the Only Pet
Candy needs to be the only animal in her home. She cannot live with dogs or cats and should not visit dog parks or participate in group daycare.
Being the only pet will allow Candy to relax and enjoy all the attention, snacks, toys, and couch space without having to share.
Her adopter should be prepared to:
Prevent close contact with unfamiliar dogs
Keep her securely leashed outside
Avoid off-leash dog areas
Use barriers when visitors bring pets
Choose quieter walking routes when needed
Remain committed to a single-pet household
Candy may want all the attention, but she has more than enough love to fill an entire home by herself.
Best with Children 10 and Older
Candy may live with children ages 10 and older. She is friendly and affectionate, but her size and enthusiastic personality could accidentally overwhelm smaller children.
Older children should understand how to respect her space, avoid rough handling, and leave her alone while she is eating or sleeping. All interactions should be supervised until everyone understands one another.
A Secure Yard Is Important
Candy can scale a 4-foot fence, so a standard fence may not safely contain her.
Her future home may need a taller, secure fence, and she should always be supervised outdoors. Gates should remain locked, and the family should inspect the perimeter for anything she could climb or use as a launching point.
A fenced yard would give Candy a place to play, but it should never replace walks, companionship, or supervised activities.
Candy’s Ideal Home
Candy would thrive with someone who wants one affectionate dog to become a major part of their daily life.
Her ideal home will provide:
No other pets
Children ages 10 or older
A secure fence taller than 4 feet
Supervised outdoor time
Car rides and walks
Playtime and enrichment
Plenty of cuddles
Space on the couch—and probably someone’s lap
Positive, consistent training
Lifelong veterinary care
Candy could be a wonderful match for an individual, couple, or family seeking a loving companion with a huge personality and an even bigger heart.
Candy’s Health
Candy is spayed, microchipped, and fully vetted. Potential adopters should request her medical records and confirm her vaccination history, parasite prevention, current diet, and any ongoing veterinary needs.
She is also eligible for the Pets for Patriots program. Qualified military members and veterans should ask Castoff Pet Rescue about available adoption support or benefits.
