Thor: A Loyal Boxer Mix with a Golden Heart

Location: Blairsville, Georgia at Castoff Pet Rescue

Breed: Boxer and Mixed Breed
Age: Approximately 7 years old
Gender: Male

Thor is a loyal Boxer mix who combines the calm manners of an office dog with the goofy, affectionate personality of a devoted companion.

He loves people, car rides, pup cups, and relaxing beside those he trusts. Thor is smart, playful, and deeply loving—but he also has behavioral needs that require an experienced adopter.

He is not a beginner dog. For the right person, however, Thor could become an incredibly rewarding best friend.

Meet Thor

Thor is approximately 7 years old and has a low-to-moderate energy level. He enjoys playtime and outings but can also settle calmly with his people.

At Castoff Pet Rescue, Thor is known as an office dog because of his polite presence and love of simply hanging out nearby. Once he forms a bond, he gives that relationship everything he has.

Thor is house-trained, crate-trained, and has received some basic training. He is also unable to scale a 4-foot fence, although all outdoor time should still be supervised.

Living with Other Animals

Thor is used as a tester dog for friendly, well-mannered dogs at the rescue. However, he is still selective and appreciates personal space.

He may be able to live with a calm, compatible dog following slow introductions. Pushy, reactive, or poorly mannered dogs may not be suitable companions.

Thor is also listed as good with cats. Introductions should still be gradual, and cats should have safe places where they can move away from him.

Resource Guarding and Reactivity

Thor may guard food, toys, or sleeping areas. Meals and high-value items will need to be managed carefully, especially if other animals live in the home.

His family should:

  • Feed him separately

  • Avoid disturbing him while eating or sleeping

  • Provide chews in a private area

  • Trade objects for treats rather than taking them

  • Learn his body language

  • Use positive, reward-based training

  • Work with a qualified trainer if needed

Thor can also show kennel reactivity toward certain people and dogs. Behavior behind a barrier may differ from how a dog behaves in a calm environment, but adopters must still understand his triggers and follow the rescue’s management plan.

Because Thor bonds strongly and has these sensitivities, he needs a home without children.

Thor’s Ideal Home

Thor needs a patient, experienced adopter who understands canine body language, resource guarding, reactivity, and thoughtful introductions.

His ideal home will provide:

  • No children

  • A calm and structured routine

  • Careful management around food and toys

  • A compatible dog or no other dogs

  • Slow introductions to people and animals

  • Positive, consistent training

  • Car rides and pup cups

  • Plenty of companionship

  • Space to rest without being disturbed

  • Lifelong veterinary care

Thor could be a wonderful match for someone who appreciates mature dogs and is willing to look beyond his rough edges to see the affectionate companion underneath.

Thor’s Health

Thor is neutered and fully vetted. Potential adopters should request his complete medical records and confirm his vaccinations, microchip status, parasite prevention, current diet, and ongoing health needs.

Thor is also approved for the Pets for Patriots program. Eligible military members and veterans can learn more about Thor’s program listing.

How to Adopt Thor

Anyone interested in Thor should submit an application through Castoff Pet Rescue and speak with the team about his behavior, current routine, and compatibility requirements.

Give Thor the Fresh Start He Deserves

Thor is sweet, loyal, cuddly, and full of personality. He may have layers, but beneath them is a golden heart waiting for someone patient enough to earn his trust.

He needs an experienced adult home that will provide structure, respect his boundaries, and love him completely. In return, Thor will show up with everything he has.

Please share his story with experienced dog owners who may be ready to welcome this handsome, complicated, and deeply loving companion.
