Because Cherished Tails is a foster-based rescue without a physical shelter, meetings with Dallas must be arranged in advance. Interested families should begin by submitting an adoption application. If the rescue believes Dallas could be a good match, a volunteer will contact the applicant to discuss the next steps and arrange a meet-and-greet.
A home check is also required as part of the adoption process. Dallas is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
About Dallas
Dallas is an affectionate, active, and playful Jack Russell Terrier with plenty of personality. He came to Cherished Tails from the Nogales shelter, where overcrowding placed him at risk. Now safe in a foster home, he is looking for a patient family that will give him the time, understanding, and love he needs to settle into a new life.
Around 6 years old and weighing approximately 24–25 pounds, Dallas is full of energy and enthusiasm. He loves attention from his people and has an endearing, lively spirit. Although he may need a little time to feel comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings, his sweet and playful personality begins to shine once he has had an opportunity to adjust.
Dallas can feel apprehensive in new situations and does not respond well to being forced into something unfamiliar or uncomfortable. A patient adopter who respects his boundaries, introduces new experiences gradually, and uses positive reinforcement will help him feel secure.
Once Dallas understands that he is safe, he is ready to enjoy everything life has to offer.
A Social Dog Who Loves to Play
One of Dallas’s absolute favorite activities is playing with other dogs. He has happily romped with canine friends ranging from tiny Chihuahuas to large Great Pyrenees.
His excitement can occasionally be a little intense for smaller dogs, so he may need reminders to play more gently. However, his ability to enjoy dogs of many different sizes shows just how much he values canine companionship. A playful, well-matched resident dog could be a wonderful friend for him.
Dallas is also good with children, according to his current listing. His compatibility with cats has not been tested, but the rescue believes his exuberant personality may make a cat-free home the safest choice.
Training and Life at Home
Dallas is mostly house-trained and knows how to use a doggie door. He also crates easily when encouraged with a treat and tolerates spending time in his crate well.
He may initially become vocal if other dogs are nearby and free while he is crated—after all, he does not want to miss out on the fun! Once he settles, however, he can remain calm and quiet. He currently sleeps through the night in his kennel without difficulty.
Dallas has also spent the night sleeping in his foster family’s bed, where he enjoyed being close to his people. Whether he is playing with canine friends or resting beside someone he trusts, Dallas loves feeling included.
On walks, Dallas behaves nicely on his leash. He can be vocal when he first enters a public setting, especially when everything around him is new and exciting. After he has had time to explore, take in his surroundings, and meet other dogs, he generally settles down.
Dallas’s Medical Consideration
Dallas has a slight palsy-like tic around his front legs and feet. It is most noticeable when he is calm and relaxed, but it does not interfere with his daily life or activities.
The tic appeared after his neuter surgery. His future veterinarian should be informed about it, particularly if Dallas ever needs anesthesia again. His adopter should be comfortable discussing this history with their veterinary team and continuing to monitor him appropriately.
