About Duncan

Meet Duncan, a 6-year-old Pit Bull Terrier who’s a three-legged bundle of love and personality! Affectionately called Dunky Bear or Funky Dunky, this 67-lb sweetheart doesn’t let his missing front left leg slow him down. Duncan is bursting with energy, loves long walks, head rubs, and soaking up all the attention he can get. With his loyal, cuddly nature and playful spirit, he’s convinced he’s a lap dog and will shower you with licks and love. Duncan is ready to be the star of a home where he can be the only pet, bringing joy and companionship to his forever family.

Characteristics

  • Affectionate & Cuddly: Duncan loves head rubs, licks, and being by your side, thinking he’s a lap dog.

  • Playful & Energetic: Despite his tripod status, he enjoys walks, chew toys, and exploring.

  • Smart & Food-Motivated: Duncan is quick to learn and easily redirected, making training a breeze.

  • Loyal: He’s a devoted companion who thrives on human connection and a safe space.

Health and Care

Duncan is neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and current on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. He’s had a comprehensive health check as of September 2025 and is in excellent health, with no major issues reported despite his missing limb. His adoption includes a microchip with registration. Duncan is fully house-trained, reliably signaling when he needs to go outside, and his mobility is unaffected by his tripod status.

Duncan’s Story

Duncan, a 6-year-old Pit Bull Terrier, is a resilient and loving tripod who’s overcome challenges to become a joyful, affectionate companion. Rescued by the Fluvanna SPCA in Troy, VA, Duncan’s missing front left leg doesn’t hold him back from living life to the fullest. He spends his days exploring, playing with chew toys, and seeking out head rubs and cuddles from the shelter staff. His food-motivated nature and smarts make him a delight to work with, and his loyal heart shines through in every interaction.

While Duncan is friendly with people, he can be stressed around other dogs and is dog-selective, making him best suited as the only pet in the home. His past challenges have only strengthened his desire for a safe, loving environment where he can be the center of attention. With his boundless love and playful spirit, Duncan is ready to find a forever family who will cherish his unique charm and give him the home he’s been dreaming of.

Ideal Home

Duncan would thrive in a loving, active home where he can be the only pet, soaking up all the attention and affection. A securely fenced yard or access to safe walking areas is ideal for his love of exploration and long walks. He’s great with adults and likely suitable for families with older children who can respect his playful, cuddly nature, but homes with other dogs or cats are not recommended due to his selective nature. Owners who can provide mental stimulation, regular exercise, and plenty of love will find Duncan to be a loyal, heartwarming companion. A suburban or rural setting with space for him to roam and relax will make Dunky Bear’s life truly special.
