Peaches: A Silly, Cuddly Girl Finally Getting Her Second Chance
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada at Second Chance Animal Sanctuary and Rescue
Breed: Mixed Breed
Age: 3 years old
Gender: Female
Weight: 69 pounds
Peaches spent more than two years in a shelter without receiving any adoption interest. Now safe in foster care, she is thriving—and finally getting the opportunity to show people what a wonderful companion she can be.
This big-headed beauty is an affectionate, energetic girl with a talent for making people laugh. Whenever she sits down, Peaches completely slouches and gazes into the distance as though she has forgotten how bones work. It is just one of the many quirks that make her unforgettable.
Meet Peaches
Peaches is smart, outgoing, playful, and always ready for cuddles. She loves carrying fluffy toys around, although those toys may not remain intact for long.
She is also devoted to her small foster brother and constantly seeks his attention. A compatible medium-sized dog who enjoys wrestling and active play could become a wonderful companion for her.
Peaches has plenty of energy and currently enjoys several walks each day, including brisk exercise and slower “sniffy” walks. She would do best with an active family prepared to give her daily physical activity, playtime, and mental enrichment.
Training and Home Life
Peaches is crate trained and can reportedly remain crated for up to six hours during the day and overnight. A distraction toy helps her settle when she first enters the crate.
She walks with a head collar and may pull, but she responds well to correction. Squirrels are especially exciting, and this social girl may try to greet people who look at her while she is walking.
Peaches is still practicing:
Urinating outside consistently
Polite leash manners
Waiting for release cues
Calming herself after energetic zoomies
Dropping objects without grumbling
She is fully reliable about defecating outside. Peaches can also be startled by sudden loud noises, so calm, patient guidance will help her feel secure.
Peaches’ Ideal Home
Peaches needs a family with large-breed experience that can provide consistency without expecting perfection immediately.
A securely fenced backyard would make frequent bathroom breaks easier while giving her a safe place for zoomies. She may especially enjoy living with a compatible medium-sized dog that appreciates her energetic play style.
Her ideal home will offer:
Patient and consistent training
Plenty of exercise and playtime
A securely fenced backyard
Large-dog experience
Toys, enrichment, and cuddles
A predictable daily routine
Continued help with house-training and leash manners
Peaches is highly enthusiastic around other dogs and needs careful introductions. She cannot live with cats and would be best suited to a home with children ages 13 and older.
Healthy and Ready for Adoption
Second Chance provides its dogs with basic veterinary care before adoption, including vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment. Peaches’ adopter will receive copies of her veterinary records when the adoption is completed.
Her future family should continue routine veterinary examinations, parasite prevention, dental care, and healthy weight management.
