Ruckus: A Cuddly Senior Boxer Searching for His Forever Couch Cushion
Location: Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada at Second Chance Animal Sanctuary and Rescue
Breed: Boxer
Age: 8 years old
Gender: Male
Weight: 80 pounds
Ruckus is searching for his forever couch cushion—and he hopes it will be right beside his favorite person.
This cuddly senior Boxer is happiest when included in everyday life. Whether his family is taking a walk, running errands, playing tug-of-war, or relaxing at home, Ruckus simply wants to be part of it.
Meet Ruckus
Ruckus is an affectionate, easygoing boy who quickly makes friends, especially when treats are involved. He enjoys car rides, games of tug, and mealtime, but cuddling with his people may be his favorite activity of all.
His energy is nicely balanced. Ruckus enjoys occasional zoomies and playful moments, followed by cozy naps and full nights of sleep. He remains calm around the house but is usually willing to join a game.
Ruckus is house-trained, walks well on a leash, and thrives when he has a predictable routine. He even has an unusual way of requesting a bathroom break: sometimes he brings his foster family one of their own shoes.
Training and Other Animals
Ruckus can react to other dogs while walking on a leash, but he has made meaningful progress through treats, redirection, and the use of a front-clip harness. He is continuing to practice recall and shifting his attention back to his handler.
Although he needs slow introductions, Ruckus can get along with compatible dogs. Any resident dog should attend a carefully managed meet-and-greet before adoption.
Ruckus is good with children but needs a home without cats. His ideal family will continue his reward-based training while giving him the consistency and encouragement he needs.
Ruckus’ Health
Ruckus received significant dental care while in foster care. His procedure included the removal of 21 teeth and several small oral masses. He has healed and is reportedly feeling much better.
He has also been diagnosed with bilateral cruciate disease affecting both hind legs. Following a specialist consultation, surgery was not recommended. His condition is currently managed with daily meloxicam and gabapentin as needed, and he is moving around comfortably.
His adopter should discuss his medication schedule, mobility, exercise limits, dental history, and continuing veterinary needs with the rescue.
His Ideal Home
Ruckus would thrive in a calm, patient household where someone is home for much of the day. He values companionship and would not enjoy being regularly left alone for long periods.
His ideal home will provide:
A quieter and predictable environment
Plenty of companionship and couch time
Gentle, appropriate exercise
Continued positive leash training
Slow introductions to compatible dogs
No cats
Ongoing veterinary and mobility care
Love, patience, and a comfortable place to nap
