About Princess

Meet Princess, a beautiful and incredibly soft Shiba Inu mix searching for a peaceful home where she can finally feel secure.

Princess arrived at Cherished Tails Senior Sanctuary from Pima Animal Care Center alongside two dogs with whom she had previously lived. Their owner had lost housing and was no longer able to care for them.

Losing her familiar home and adjusting to so many changes understandably left Princess feeling shy and uncertain. She can be cautious in unfamiliar situations, but she warms up quickly with her caregivers once she realizes she is safe.

Princess is friendly with both men and women and has a mild temperament. Although her experience with children is unknown, she has shown herself to be a gentle and well-mannered companion in her foster home.

Characteristics

  • Shy but Sweet: Princess may initially feel uncertain, but she begins to relax once she becomes familiar with her caregivers.

  • Friendly: She has been welcoming toward both men and women.

  • Mild-Tempered: Princess has a gentle disposition and would appreciate a calm, predictable household.

  • House-Trained: She has been accident-free almost from the beginning of her time in foster care.

  • Dog-Door Trained: Princess comfortably uses a dog door when she needs to go outside.

  • Good House Manners: She behaves nicely in the home and does not need to spend all her time in a crate.

  • Crate-Tolerant: Princess can stay in a crate when necessary.

  • Leash-Trained: She walks well on a leash and is ready to enjoy relaxed walks with her future family.

  • Good for Grooming: Princess behaved beautifully for both her groomer and her foster during her pre-groom cleanup.

  • Healthy: Her examination and bloodwork did not reveal any current health concerns.

Life with Other Animals

Princess previously lived with other dogs and has generally been okay around them. However, she can display a more dominant personality and appears to prefer having her space and people to herself.

For this reason, Cherished Tails Senior Sanctuary is seeking a home where Princess can be the only pet. A home without other animals will give her the calm environment she needs while allowing her to receive her family’s complete attention.

Health and Weight

Princess is approximately eight years old and currently weighs about 33 pounds, although she may be closer to 35 pounds with a little extra fluff.

Her examination and bloodwork did not identify any health concerns. She could benefit from losing a few pounds through appropriately portioned meals and gentle, regular exercise.

Her adopter can work with a veterinarian to determine a healthy target weight and feeding plan.

Ideal Home

Princess would thrive in a quiet and predictable home with patient people who will allow her to adjust at her own pace.

Her ideal family will:

  • Have no other pets

  • Give her time and space to become comfortable

  • Maintain a peaceful, dependable routine

  • Offer gentle affection without overwhelming her

  • Provide regular walks and appropriate exercise

  • Help her gradually reach a healthier weight

  • Continue giving her the structure and security she needs

Princess has already experienced the loss of her home and everything familiar to her. She deserves a family that will give her the stability to settle in, build trust, and show just how loving she can be.

If you have a pet-free home and space in your heart for a shy but sweet senior girl, Princess may be the gentle companion you have been waiting for.
